The Complete Guide to Cleanroom Partition Systems & Must-Have Accessories
When the Walls Fail: A Costly Cleanroom Partition Mistake You Can’t Afford
When a pharmaceutical company lost an entire batch of life-saving oncology drugs, the root cause wasn’t equipment failure or human error; it was the cleanroom walls. Microcracks in an outdated partition system had allowed contaminants to enter a sterile area. That loss cost millions and delayed treatment for hundreds of patients.
Cleanroom partition systems are the first physical layer of defence in any manufacturing or research industry. They’re not just walls; they define airflow, enable compliance, and contain contamination. Whether you’re designing a sterile injectable line or a potent API suite, your partition choice impacts every step, from construction timelines to batch integrity.
This comprehensive guide walks you through the fundamentals of cleanroom partition systems, explores their various types and technical specifications, delves into the accessories that enhance their performance, and offers guidance for selecting the right system for your facility.
Cleanroom Partition Systems Explained: The First Line of Defence Against Contamination
The clean room partition system is an advanced system of modular walls that keeps the environment of pharmaceutical, biotech, and electronics manufacturing facilities highly controlled. Such systems assist in controlling air traffic, avoiding contamination, and adhering to GMP and ISO cleanroom regulations. Whether it is the resistance to pressure, ease of maintenance and growth, the correct partitioning system is the backbone of any top-performance cleanroom.
In contrast to other conventional materials used in building construction, cleanroom partitions are designed to cooperate with other cleanroom ceilings, floors, HVAC, doors, and monitoring systems. They can accommodate transitions between rooms of other classifications with ease and can be upgraded to utilities, automation interfaces, and future changes of layout.

Having the fabrication done in-house and the project executed by industry experts, Shree Vishwakarma guarantees your cleanroom installation to the best standards in the world. Breakdown of panels we produce:
-
Wall Panels (PUF-Insulated Panels)
Our standard cleanroom wall panels consist of two outer sheets of steel or aluminium, filled with high-density polyurethane foam (PUF) for superior insulation. Designed for strength and hygiene, these panels are ideal for internal and external cleanroom walls and ceilings.
The wall panel is made of the GI or aluminium frame structure, where the interior is filled with high-density polyurethane (PUF) at 35 40 kg/m (super clean industries), mounted on aluminium or GI bottom tracks, and designed with factory-made cut-outs to place pass boxes, sockets, autoclaves, and light fixtures (suitable to pharmaceutical, food and industrial cleanrooms).
-
Fire Retardant Wall Panels
Built for high fire resistance, these panels are composed of two metal sheets and a core of non-combustible materials like rock wool or glass wool. They offer excellent fire resistance and acoustic insulation.
These wall panels are fire-resistant and filled with Rock Wool, Glass Wool or Tuffinsul insulation and have a 350 °C to 750 °C fire rating for up to 2 hours and are mounted with aluminium or GI bottom track, which are perfectly applicable at the location requiring high fire-resistant and acoustic insulation.
-
View Panels
These panels are designed with a built-in toughened glass section for clear visibility into clean areas, while maintaining hygiene and safety. Available in single or double-glass flush designs.
View panels offered in 5 mm toughened glass in single or dual flush design, in 50 mm, 63 mm and 85 mm thickness with moisture-absorbing silica gel stuffed SS, GI or aluminum profiles-preferred at gowning rooms and clean room observation units.
-
Return Air Riser Panels
Engineered to integrate with HVAC systems, these modular panels allow for seamless air suction and return, ensuring cleanroom airflow compliance. Return air riser panels are constructed from SS, GI, or CRCA with a powder-coated finish, featuring a leak-proof design with options for front doors, VCD integration, and duct connection flanges, and can be equipped with grills, filters, and filter sheets, making them ideal for efficient cleanroom airflow
-
PIR Panels
These fire-resistant insulated panels feature a PolyIsoCyanurate (PIR) core, offering enhanced thermal performance and energy efficiency.
PIR panel insulated with a PIR core provides high levels of thermal performance with resistance to temperatures as low as -30 °C, designed in 50 mm, 63 mm and 85 mm thicknesses. These panels are used in cold stores, deep freezers, biotechnological laboratories, food processing and labs and pharmaceutical clean rooms.
Accessories That Make the System Work
-
Coving Systems
Coving is used to eliminate sharp 90-degree joints between wall-to-floor, wall-to-ceiling, and corners. These curved profiles help prevent dust buildup and make cleaning easier, supporting GMP compliance. They are typically made of powder-coated aluminum, stainless steel, or PVC.
-
View Panels / Vision Windows
View panels are flush-mounted glass windows integrated into partition walls to allow safe observation inside cleanrooms. They reduce unnecessary entry and come in single or double-glazed formats, often with anti-fog and antistatic coatings for clarity.
-
Cleanroom Doors
Cleanroom doors are designed to maintain environmental control during entry and exit. Available in hinged, sliding, or hermetically sealed versions, these doors support pressure retention, include drop-down seals, and can integrate with door interlock systems.
-
Pass Boxes / Transfer Hatches
Pass boxes enable the transfer of materials between areas of different cleanroom classifications without personnel movement. Static types are used for basic zones, while dynamic pass boxes include HEPA filtration for sterile transfers.
-
Air Return Risers and Grilles
These are built into partition panels to allow controlled return airflow. Designed to support laminar flow, they are flush-mounted with easy-to-clean stainless steel or aluminum grills, ensuring airflow balance and cleanliness.
